Subject: RE: Witango-Talk: Executing Oracle PL/SQL Procedure in Tango

Hi,

I got this from
Tim Kelly MIS Director
Harvard University - DCE

---
We just wrap our calls in a begin/end block and use a direct DBMS.

begin
p_some_procedure(
'<@var name=some_var scope=local>',
<@BIND NAME=p_status DATATYPE=varchar SCOPE=@@ps
BINDTYPE=IN/OUT>);<@CRLF> commit;<@CRLF> end;

Note the second parameter is for a return value from the PL/SQL (if
desired).

For a function you would just call it w/ a select statement.

We use Oracle 8.0. To my knpwledge a stored procedure must work here!
Its
happening from the Oracle SQL plus.but its not happening from tango to
Oracle. Calling a stored procedure from Tango thru SQL server works
pretty
fine.

Are we missing something!!

This is really tough, it really depends on the database.

Most of the newer database some with a client that you can input sql
direct and have it display results. Like ISQL for SQL Server. I then
work in there to find the syntax that is required to call a stored
procedure. Then I try it in a DirectDBMS.

In some cases I have had to change the Stored Procedure to a Stored
Function so that I could call it within a select statement.

I hope this helps some.

Hi Ben,

I tried using execute <Procedure Name>('<Parameter>') Which resulted me
in
the below error.
When I tried using call <Procedure Name>('<Paramenter>') I got the same
error.

Could you please give me an example by using Select statement to execute
a
query in DIRECT_DBMS.

Thanks

Manohar

what was the statement?

sometimes you have to do a "CALL" or "SELECT Procedure()" in the direct
dbms
examples
1. CALL Procedure(Param1,Param2)
2. SELECET Procedure(Param1,Param2)

Hi All,

I tried to execute an oracle procedure using DIRECT_DBMS. I got the
following error. Can anyone explain me about this problem? Is there
any
other method to do the same. Kindly get back to me on this.
