I've used all the different anti-virus programs out there and the one that works best for me is eTrust from ComputerAssociates. Automatically downloads on a preset schedule, plus they notify you whenever there is a update, even if it is several times per day. And it isn't that expensive, $29 a year I think.
I don't know if it's any better at detecting spyware, because I run AdAware all the time too. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Ben Johansen Sent: Friday, September 27, 2002 6:44 PM To: Multiple recipients of list witango-talk Subject: RE: Witango-Talk: [OT] Spyware Alert! Tell me about it, I use MacAfee corporate and it specifically went in to the setup and told it to kill a know spyware that was coming in and it totally ignores that setting. And if you think you're all protected with Norton, think again If the spyware packages come from anyone of the main antivirus companies, in my opinion it is not worth anything. Don't get me wrong, I like MacAfee and will continue, but I trust them at an arms length. Ben, what your saying is 100% true! Spyware is terrible. Im not 100% positive on this one but my source is pretty trustworthy. Spyware is actualy much like a trojan virus...so much so that various companies which produce spyware have actualy paid off mcaffee anti-virus software to disregard their trojan spyware programs. Scary isnt it? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ben Johansen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Multiple recipients of list witango-talk" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, September 27, 2002 3:16 PM Subject: Witango-Talk: [OT] Spyware Alert! Hi All, There is a lot of effort to get everyone to get a firewall and anti-virus in place, but there is a third leg to this triangle. Spy-ware is coming in disguised as harmless little collection of hits to there site. Trust me it has grown far beyond that. If you don't believe me go to http://www.lavasoft.de and download Ad-Aware it is free, you will also need to get the latest REFLIST file (there version of an antivirus dat file). there is a package that you can get which will download and install the REFLIST on a click of the button called "REFUPDATE" Run it on your computer and be prepared for a shock. They are installing active Trojans that are watching all your moves and sending reports all over. Have you noticed a slow down on you browser when surfing lately. Will it is most likely Spy-Ware Another gotcha to look out for. When you download the freebee make sure you download it from either Mirror#1 or Mirror#2 farther down the downloads list.
