While reviewing the function of Actions and Builders and such wonderful things in Witango during the InternetWorld Trade show, it struck me that there is more to Actions than is visible at first look. Since I have built web-applications entirely from C/C++ and Java/JSP, I have felt the pain of coding the work of Actions, that to us Witango programmers is just a drag and drop of a cute little icon. Take the Search Action for example, it not only fetches from the database, but also dynamically create the SQL code during run-time depending on what the user entered in the search form and how it was configured by the programmer. This is real time data dependent intelligent behaviour, not just a static read from the database. Actions are not really another options to Meta Tags. Think how many lines of code one would need to actually code a search action even if the MetaTag for database access were available!
This smartness, of course, is not usually communicated to the potential buyers or heads of IT departments evaluating Witango, thereby losing a major advantage and so appearing to be yet another Web-App server like most other scripted or Java/JSP based environment.
It is to be emphasized that Actions really makeup the strength of our Rapid Application Development Environment, not Builders. The intelligence of the Actions is really what differentiates Witango from the pack, both in the DevStudio, as well as at the Server.
In summary, I would like propose hereby to Sophie, Phil and the With Enterprise Team to re-badge "Witango Actions" as "Witango SmartActions " in all documentation and product literature. Trivial as it may sound, one thing leads to another, and eventually prospects will apprehend (after expressing curiosity about Witango Smartness) that there is really no peer to the (Smart)Actions in the industry and wonder at the clear-thinking foresight of the original Tango architects.
