We've done the same, using this in a file write action:
<@var csv_array aprefix="" asuffix="" rprefix="" rsuffix="<@char code=13>"
cprefix="" csuffix=",">
Then use javascript to open a window pointing the the written file and it
opens in Excel (in most cases, or asks them to download it).
