We have one server with public applications, outside a very tight
firewall. I've just been tasked with resurrecting an application that
was taken down when we moved that server into the public zone. They
want it yesterday, of course; VIPs are involved.

Problem: the application uses numerous mail actions to notify staff of
items needing attention. SMTP is not installed on that server and the
Powers That Be refuse to install SMTP. (We were hacked once and caused
quite the ruckus around here with spam.) I'm supposed to find an
alternative method to make this all work.

We do have SMTP running on a Tango2K/IIS5 webserver behind the firewall.
Would it be possible to direct the Mail to that SMTP server, or call it
as a service, or something similar?

Any other possibilities?

Thanks much.
