I really don't see a problem with this 
In your case you are doing multiple reads and writes to the disk 
As where in the case of storing it in a local variable it is one read
and one write 

It does bring up a good point to submit to the witango bug/features

Editing text in the file action window isn't nearly as nice as
editing in a Results HTML action, for a lot of reasons.  I assign the
file contents to a variable in a Results HTML action and then
reference the variable in the file contents window.
