Thanks to those of you who responded, even with a munged subject line. I have set the datasource timeout to 0, which seems to have done the trick. Upgrading to MS SQL isn't an option right now and, since the sight doesn't get an enormous amount of traffic, I doubt if the performance issues will be significant, but I will keep an eye on them.
