Subject: RE: Witango-Talk: OT: Cold Fusion -1, WiTango +1

I wish I could say that AOS looked at both technologies thoroughly and saw the beauty of the Witango approach.

However, it was much simpler than that.  After dealing with a multitude of developers, hosting solutions, etc, AOS came to me for an all-in-one solution.  I layed out a plan for them that included switching the technology from Cold Fusion to Witango.  The only question they asked was, "why change?"  I told them that it was my experience that Witango was a better platform and that even though it would mean re-writing a lot of the existing code, it was going to need to be re-written anyway, regardless of platform.  Plus I told them that even though Cold Fusion had a larger marketshare, the support was better for Witango.  That's mostly because of this list.

I guess the bottom line is that they came to me and trusted in my judgement.  I know a lot of developers have clients who insist on a particular technology, but I have never had an issue with it.  More people have heard of Cold Fusion, so some of them ask why not use it.  I try to keep my answer simple.  It's always something like this:  "I have used both products, and in my opinion Witango is a better product and will COST YOU LESS DUE TO SHORTER DEVELOPMENT TIME.

I don't really scream that last part, but they always hear it loud and clear.

My philosophy is pretty simple: When I hire a carpenter to build my house, I'm hiring the man, not his tools.  If I trust him to do the job, then if he uses a Craftsman hammer or a Stanley hammer, that's up to him.  I realize this is a fairly simplistic approach, and there are always other considerations such as whether they are buying the Server piece, hosting considerations, etc.  Since I host the majority of my sites this usually isn't an issue.

Sorry for the rambling answer.  The bottom line is that AOS hired my company and placed its trust in me to chose the best solution.  I believe in Witango enough to place the value of that relationship in its capable hands (so to speak).

Oh yeah, plus I REALLY hate Cold Fusion.

I’m curious what criteria AOS used to make the switch.  Was it based primarily on differences between CF and Witango or did they see a better programmer and use his preferred technology?

For what it's worth, I just scored a contract with the American Orthodontic Society to rewrite their Website from Cold Fusion to Witango.  Actually we're going to re-do the entire site.

Score one for the good guys!

Subject: Witango-Talk: Var inside a var

Can I Do this?

<@VAR LastClickedItemArray[1,Content] SCOPE=user

encoding=”<@VAR LastClickedItemArray[1,ContentEncoding] SCOPE=user>”>

Basically, can I use a variable as a parameter for a variable?
