I wouldn't call this upgrade future proofing, but it gets your feet out 
before the cement hardens. 

*  Runs with apache2, (apache 1.3 is EOL -- just some security patches) 
so the web server can also have higher performance/speed/security.
*  JDBC interface -- cheaper than Openlink licenses
