Just my two cents for that, Acessing databases depends on the specific database and on the server. We user xserver with witango, databases are on different boxes (all OSX).
MySQL IODBC accessing MySql is not a problem with iODBC and works good except you cannot build new/search actions with blobs. You have to add them later on. OpenBase Since November 2002 Openlink tries to solve problems with their ODBC driver to OpenBase. Until now there is no usable driver availiable, so i give up on that and use JDBC. I do not think, that the ODBC Driver ist faster on that database, because the ODBC-driver is works as a ODBC to JDBC Bridge. The JDBC driver now works nearly perfect except some encoding problems, Witango is working on. So you have to use the trial version of openlinksw to find out wether the database you work against with is working good or not.
