Hey guys,

im taking a stab in the dark but i think the problem comes in if you have the witango server on a machine of one endian and the witango client on a machine of another endian.

if i remember correctly mac is big endian and intel is little endian, all this means is if you have a double word (4 bytes) on a mac, the bytes will be in the order 1234, but if you have 4 bytes on an intel system, the bytes will be in the order 3412.  very odd isnt it? i dont know why they do this but they do...maybe they gain some preformance boost way deep in the hardware or something? who knows...

So if you transfer a double word from a mac to an intel cpu, it will take those 1234 bytes and THINK that the bytes are in 3412 format, meaning it will mix up the data in awful ways :P

Im not sure if there are other issues involved but this is a big one that comes to mind!

That should have read: "... you NOT mix platforms..."

I can't remember the specific details, but I believe that there are recommendations that you NOT much platforms for the Witango Client, and Witango Server. I believe that the problems are because of the differences in how paths are handled.

Hope this helps,

Anybody have any advice for setting up a multiple tier environment for Witango?

Hypothetical Setup...

Box 1 (Web): 192.168.1.2
Mac OS X Server Running Apache
wapache.dll (clients.ini : "WITANG_SERVER=192.168.1.3,18100")

Box 2 (Application): 192.168.1.3
Windows 2003 Server
Witango 5 Application Server ( witango.ini : "VALIDHOSTS=192.168.1.2")

Box 3 (Data): 192.168.1.4
RedHat 9.0
MySQL, PostgreSQL, OpenBase, Oracle, etc...

Here are my questions.

• All calls to external files (<@INCLUDE>, file actions, etc..) have to be mapped to Box 2?
• File paths in Witango applications have to be in the correct format for the platform the application server is on? ( i.e. Windows C:\...\...\myinclude.inc )
• Which box is the ERROR_HTML, referred to in the clients.ini, on?
• All COM, Java Beans, Batch Files, DLL's or external applications should be on or accessible by the application server?
• What would you suggest networking with? Gigabit? Fiber?
• Is there an option in the installers to only install the CGI or plugin on the web server. I think the option used to be in the T2k installers....

Any other helpful tips you can suggest?

Thanks.
