There are two products
Server and Advanced Server.
The both handle
- 250 simultaneous clients
- 125 hosted databases with virtually unlimited tables per database
- 100 simultaneous Instant Web Publishing sessions
- LAN
- WAN
Advanced Server supports multiple methods of data access
- ODBC/JDBC ( and will most likely support Mac also on or shortly after release)
- FMP client
- IWB and Custom Web Publishing
- XML
- XSLT
There is no Linux product
There is no unlimited product it is not needed.
Configuration
- You can do live updates to the schema and security without taking the server down
- Server is a service on Mac and windows
- Some plug ins work on server
- Server has full calc engine and will do calculations if more efficient for server to handle it than client
- Multi processor capable
- Will take full advantage of additional RAM
Other Applies to both
- Supports XSLT tags and processing
- Manages web client sessions
- Can encrypt network traffic with clients
- Does more process on the server than before
- Is multithreaded
- Less "Chatty"
smaller packages ( compressed records, finds are done on server, decompress on client
- Only found set comes down
- Only found set comes down
- Faster of LAN or WAN eliminates the need for terminal server
- Handles web connection in separate partition
I am working on a diagram to use with customers I’ll post it as soon as I get it done.
The bottom line here is there are places where FMS with IWP will make more sense than building a Witango front end. For instance you have a customer you built or has a fMP in house solution and they want to give customer access to status about their own account or the print job they are doing for them.
It can be done with minimal development and the IWP.
You can then build out more features with witango if they need them later but they will need advanced server then.
