You should be able to do it for free, but too many people have abused the WHOIS information and I am not sure how easy it is to get everything now.

 

  1. you need to do a reverse dns lookup on the IP address, and that should give you a domain name
  2. you need to do a whois on that domain name.

 

You might want to get DNSSCAPE and play around with it.  You might be able to make a tango call to get what you want.

 

A lot of connections, you will just see something like AOL and you still have no clue about the user.

 

I am sure there is someone on the list that has already done this.

Does anyone know of a good (preferably cheap) IP lookup web service. I'm looking to supply an IP and get back company and geographic information (client wants more information on who is visiting our sites). I've looked into Cdyne's IP2Geo, but I can't get anyone from the company to call me back.

Or, is there a better way to do this?
