Congrats! Well deserved winners! Steve From: Ian Daniel
[mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Great Witango Component Contest
Ok .. we admit it. This contest took waaaay too long
to complete. Tons of reasons and excuses, but none of them excuse our
need to apologize to the Witango community for taking so long to wrap this up. For some of you on the list, the fact that a contest was
underway might be news. The purpose of the contest has been to encourage the Witango
development community by sharing ideas, learning more about what can be done
using Witango, building the collection of components and just having fun with
the code. Contestants submitted components that were judged by a panel that
included Scott Cadillac, Ben Johansen and Ian and David at NCOL. New Creation Consulting and Witango
Technologies are pleased to announce that all submissions have been
evaluated and winners chosen. Some very cool and interesting solutions were offered
up. In no particular order, they are: - a collection of tools for credit card number
validation, email validation, is day between dates, etc.; - a tool to create and learn about CSS files; - a company-wide calendar application; - implementation of a simple neural network in Witango
in a tcf to do pattern recognition, also comes with examples on how to use it
in different ways including black and white image corruption
filtering/recognition. Seriously! - a Media Management System; and, - a DMS Toolset that provides access to database and
operating system features over http on Windows based Witango servers. According to contest rules, all code submitted has been
released into the public domain, and is freely available for anyone to
use. Examples of all code submissions are available for immediate
download from: We encourage the keepers of the component zones to add these
files to their libraries, so that the value is widely and permanently available
to all Witango Developers. And now ... the winners: ** The A Witango v5.5 studio goes to Bill Conlon for his Media Management System. The documentation
alone is worth the read. ** The A Witango v5.5 Standard Server, goes to Dave Shelley for his DMS Toolset. With this
suite of tools, administrators can remotely administer databases, files and
directories, run Witango code snippets, search and view the logs and more.
There is a lot here to look over and learn from. On behalf of everyone at Witango Technologies and New
Creation Consulting, we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely
congratulate the contest winners. We especially want to
thank all those who took the time to document and submit their code, and
to participate in this community-building exercise. To all those who benefit from this experience by using one
or more of the solutions made available to you, please consider how you might
also be able to contribute to this "knowledge" community through
making something of value available to your peers. Ian Daniel, A.Sc.T., President Ph: (604) 806-6265 ext
