We left authorize.net for numerous problems and outages. We capture many transactions during the day, and we were constantly getting errors, no responses, scheduled downtimes from them. So we went to verisign. Not one problem since, and made several clients switch.
I think I still have one client on auth.net, I will check.

Included is a method using the Payflowpro com object, which I have found to the best performing, most reliable method. And a method I wrote a while back that will validate any credit card number without a provider, using a checksum. Let me know if you find either useful.
