First Question
I have experienced several app server crashes. So I am wanting to have
something that polls the app server and if it doesn't' respond, restarts it.
Like a cron function or something like that. I have searched the archives
and I haven't found anything, although I thought I would find something.
.
First thing to do is download 5.5.009 from the following URL.This is next official release that will go up on the downloads page in a day or so.

Install it and restart the machine. Make sure you are running at least OS X.3.9. 5.5.009has passed QA and has a swag of fixes that have been reported by users over the last 6 months. See how you go with this version. This version is compatible with X.3.9 and X.4.

If you are still having crashes send us the witangoevents.log (/Applications/WitangoServer/5.5/configuration) and thewitangod.crash.log (/Library/Logs/CrashReporter) that is produced by the OS X CrashReporter. These are essential for us to diagnose what caused the crash on OS X.The iodbc which ships with OS X.3.9 and lower has been the cause of the majority of crashes we see on OSX. Apple shipped a version of iodbc on OS X that was 3 years old very buggy. They also did not update it with any of the releases from 10.1 to 10.3.

If you are game upgrade to OS X.4.1 (the first service pack is already out). This has the latest iodbc driver manager. It is also needed for FileMaker 7 ODBC driver. MySQL have not released a driver that is compatible with OS X.4 yet but I have modified their source code and compiled up a version for 10.4. I have submitted the changes back to MySQL but have been advised that it could be 7 weeks before you see a new installer for 10.4. I am trying to convince them it needs to be done sooner.Ifanyone needs MyODBC on 10.4 before then drop me an email and I will send you my build which is a use at own risk edition.

Second Question: What lines to I type in terminal, to stop and restart the
witango app server?

Start the Witango Server
sudo SystemStarter start WITANGO55

Stop the Witango Server
sudo SystemStarter stop WITANGO55

If I am trying to find the reason why the app server is crashing, which
level would I want to set the logging level to? I had it on 0 and not have
it set to 2.

We recommend leaving the Logginglevel at 1. This simply logs start and end of taf execution.

For those running Windows the installer is at the following URL. Report any issue you have with the installer as the install process has had an overhaul and upgrade as well.

The release versions for Linux and Solaris will follow next week and from this point on we will be able to do simultaneous releases for all platforms.
