I struggled with this problem for a long time before someone on the list gave me some good advice, which seems to have resolved the problem. If the FMP source has any "ghost" fields still present on a layout, even though the field has since been deleted, the editor crashes when defining that particular datasource. This could be a layout other than the one you are trying to define (even if you're only planning to use "layout 0"), and you'll still have the problem. You really need to find and remove "all" of these ghost fields from all your layouts. I did this on several different occasions and it solved the problem each time. Hope this helps...

I've had this happen to me, too. Sometimes I can figure out why and
sometimes I can't. When I can find a cause it's often that I've made
some really tiny change to the database and now this particular taf
is looking for the column I changed. But I've also found that
sometimes it wasn't the FMP file after all.

Thanks for your response Jane. I've had those corrupt TAF problems where you
have to copy the action to a blank TAF and all works (mostly in T2000) but
this is a bit different.

The crash occurs when I try to load the datasource in the Workspace. No TAF
even open.

I now suspect there is something about the datasource in the Editor prefs
that may be causing the problem but don't know where the Editors list of
loaded datasources is. I think I've had problems similar to this before and
just reinstalling the Editor fixed it but that is a tad drastic.

Nope, I just tried loading the source on another workstation with Editor and
it also crashes. Back tot he drawing board.
