We need someone who can write and installer to work under SMS or if not GPO
that will
install fMP 7 on all the schools computers without IT intervention. But we
need the installer to install FMP install
a few plug ins and write the proper user name to the registry.
We got a response from the FMP list but this person can not do it in the
timeframe we need ( has to be done by 9/1)
Here was his response.

- while it is often technically feasible to use Group Policy to push
installations to the client desktop, it's not the best tool for the job.
And sometimes it just plain doesn't work. Software installation through GP
occurs even before the user sees anything on his/her screen and users often
reboot the machine if that takes a long time thinking the machine hung,
while it is really installing software
- Windows System Management Server (SMS) is the tool for the job. Might be
more cost effective then trying this through GP
- if SMS can't be used I would personally first look into installing
software through a Windows logon script and the available installer silent
install command line options so that the user will at least get some
feedback on what is happening, or if the install failed.
- writing the username to the registry is not something you'd typically do
at installation, but rather through a Windows logon script. This way the
currently logged-on username is written there.

This could be done by helping the IT person do it themselves or remote
access and doing it for them.
