Well, Wayne, I followed your simple instructions and it worked fine. I was being over-complex about it by trying to put different local$httpheaders in.

I put the multipart/alternative; boundary="alternative_boundary" line in the WiTango Mail action option where text or html are the usual options
added the --alternative_boundary
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit
Content-Disposition: inline

to the custom header just as it is
then the plain text email and then at the bottom of the custom header after the plain text email

--alternative_boundary
Content-type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII"
Content-transfer-encoding: quoted-printable
Content-Disposition: inline

and the html email in the email body field

and it works perfectly.
I've also noticed that my mail prog recognises it is a multipart and allows me to switch back and forth between versions for that email.
Cool.
thanks
Garth

Have you had experience with creating dual format emails? I use mainly
HTML emails, but want to create a dual format. Now I know that the
plain text version goes into the custom header, with a custom header to
set the mime type and quoted-printable but my header doesn't work
properly - I receive the html version fine but the plain text version
displays as well and isn't formatted correctly (all strung together).

I suspect it is the difference between Content-Type: text/html;
charset="iso-8859-1" and Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"
What should the Content-Type be set at. Do you have an example of a

Ours looks something like this:

Content-type: multipart/alternative; boundary="alternative_boundary"

--alternative_boundary
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"
Content-transfer-encoding: 7bit

It appears your e-mail client does not support HTML.
