Wayne, If you are not already running 5.5.012 (the latest beta build) I suggest emailing Witango support and asking for it. Also be sure to email them ALL of the error logs/stacks that they get, they do help.
In versions of the server below 5.5.012 there were some issues regarding TCF management, mostly around the loading, mis-loading and purging the TCFs. I don't know the specifics, but 012 is much more stable under pressure for me. Note that I'm on Windows, so your issue might not be related at all. Build 012 has been the latest beta build for about a month now. I've been running it very successfully at a high load of about 150 req/min. It's been running the Witango.com sites for a while now too. I suspect that it might become the next release. I'm running a photo competition and today is also the day our newsletter goes out so a lot of people are hitting the server. It's Witango 5.5 running on an Xserve with 1Gb RAM OS X 10.3.8. I noticed that the number of threads immediately jumps to 10 above whatever I set it to. I had the default 20 and it showed 30. I set it to 80 and it shows 90. It's also creeps up to about 400Mb of virtual memory. Does anybody have any ideas about what I can tweak to make this more stable? Or tests I can do to try and find the source of the problem.
