As far as connecting to the client you could do that since 5 and you can
with 7. You are limited to 5 connections and it is a lot slower than
connecting to server and again you don't have the advantage of whatever
driver changes may come with server advanced release.
Also.
If you are using FM 5 or FM 6 on OS X we do not recommend updating
to FM 7 on OS X as the ODBC driver for OS X does not work reliably
and you will not be able to retrieve the ROWID of a record. If you
are attempting to use FM 7 with ODBC on OS X the first release of
the FM 7 ODBC driver has serious issues with crashing, table aliases
and performance and the final release (v5) cannot retrieve the
primary key for a row but crashes less frequently. You can work
around the rowid issue by creating and maintaining you own ROWID but
there are no workarounds for the crashes. All issues we have
reported should have been fixed in FMSA 8 when it is released in the
future.
ODBC with FM 7 on Windows does not have the same issues but does
crash occasionally.
I'm interested in JDBC access to FileMaker Pro 8 on OS X (a bit more
detail appears in my reply to Dan Stein's posting, which arrived just
ahead of yours). Though I'd settle for ODBC if it worked... Or FM 7,
for that matter.
Thanks for replying.
