I asked around and there seems to be a consensus:
“Design for non-designers” is a great general
book. Applies to anything on screen or on paper.

artistic side of web design
Hey
everyone,
Like many of you out there, I am a coder at heart and deal better with 1s and
0s than color balance and such :P
Does anyone have any recommendations for books which explain how to make things
that look nice? Also a book that explained how to make good (intuitive,
easy, foolproof?) user interfaces for web apps that would be cool too.
Thank you!
Alan
