If you are stating in 3.6 you are best to stay in 4.0. You would have two learning curves to deal with in moving to 8. A large FMP one and small witango one.
The biggest advantage is you can use ODBC, you no longer address layouts but tables, there are multiple tables in one file and you address the multithreaded FMP server not the client. All that comes at a price in $ and hardware and learning.
