Hi all,

Am I just reaching for straws here? How about a JDBC connection to MySql on Panther
Server? Does anyone have experience with this, given the comments below?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I am new to the list. My reason for joining is that I am trying to
access via ODBC a mysql server on a panther server box.

We have installed it three times, and can't get the driver to load.

Mark - a while back I made this posting here:

I downloaded and installed the Mac ODBC drivers for MySQL, and
wondered why I couldn't get them to work. I realised later when re-
visting the download page that I hadn't spotted they were for Mac
OS X 10.4 - I'm running 10.3.9 and don't really want to switch OS
at this time.

I looked around the other downloads for MySQL ODBC, and the only
possibility seems to be to download the source of the older
version and compile it myself. Not sure I feel up to that!

Am I correct? Are there no "ready-made" MySQL ODBC drivers for Mac
for OS X 10.3.9?

 Hi all,

I posted a couple of questions a while ago about getting MyODBC
to work
on Mac PPC 10.3.9. Since I have had absolutely no response from
anyone
within MySQL, must I assume that it is not interested in trying to
 address the problem.

Just as a reminder: the readme in the binary download states
that you
don't require anything other than the package provided by MySQL
to get
MyODBC access working on the Mac. However, it transpires that the
program requires libtool.dylib, which is only available if you
install
the XCode development environment (800 Mo, from what I
remember), and
indeed some of the binaries don't even appear to have installed
 themselves correctly.

This used to work with the previous version of the driver which
is no
longer available on the servers, but the 3.51.12 definitely does
not
work on my standard out-of-the-box OSX 10.3.9 with latest
security fixes
 applied.

Any response from the MyODBC people ?

 TIA,

 Alex

Alex,

This is a known issue (there's a bug filed against it). It will be
fixed
in the next release of MyODBC 3.51 (it was a packaging error).
Currently, resources are allocated solely to getting Connector/
ODBC 5.0
out the door. Once it reaches a beta level of stability, we will be
going back to work on rolling a 3.51.13 release.

As I get older, I have trouble remembering things, but I'm pretty
sure OS 10.3 is Panther. Does this shed any light on your problem?

regards

Rowland
