Ian,

To answer your question directly, I run up to 25 threads per instance, and due to my complicated configuration I have 110 available threads spread across 8 independent CPU cores. Still, even if one application/database is misbehaving it can send the whole system into a downward spiral. The only thing increasing thread count does is allow for the system to recover from longer-term or more serious problems. Witango 5.5 is VERY well threaded, but that’s no guarantee against running out of overall processing power.

Oh, I have also run up to 50 threads successfully, and tested the server above 100, but there’s little use for such a high amount of parallel processing unless you are sitting on a 32-core server. And memory has no implication on thread count aside from the obvious simple math (if you have 50 threads processing, and each thread uses 2 MB in variables storage, and so on)

Subject: Witango-Talk: Urgent Question re Thread Count -- Quick Answers, Please ..

Ok .. we have some seriously overloaded servers.

The Witango 5.x threadcount is by default set at 15.

On a Win2k3 server with 2 Gb of ram, what is a safe maximum to adjust this to?
