using QT VR do we need a QT server to handle this or anything special

You need to build the QTVR properly, if they want nodes and the like it takes either a couple of individual shareware apps

http://www.clickheredesign.com.au/cubicconnector/

http://www.kaidan.com/Faqs-QTVR.html

or if time is money then this is a good app

but there are gotchas all along the way.

Great looking VR means big files, small files mean crappy VR and if you have crappy VR, why bother.

Lighting is critical if you want things to look impressive. Hi-Rez is where it's at, you need a fisheye lens if there are any people in the shot.

The movies are just embedded with the embed tag, nothing special on the server is needed.

But it (QTVR) is a deep pool to dive into.

Best example of QTVR & Flash I have ever seen:

Pretty much my bet for best web site on the 'Net
