Jason:
It's not simple to explain. Here a tree major things. Example for Germany:

1) German to German sales = 19% Tax
2) German to Austria customer, own with a VAT ID = 0% Tax (company's own a VAT
ID)
3) German to Austria customer, own no VAT ID = 19% Tax (private persons, don't
own a VAT ID)
4) German to a NON-EU country = 0% Tax (note: not all EU Countries, are in the
EU. Sample Turkey)

Now - we have different Tax% in Europe. The same for Austria:

1) Austria to Austria sales = 20% Tax
2) Austria to German customer, own with a VAT ID = 0% Tax (company's own a VAT
ID)
3) Austria to German customer, own no VAT ID = 20% Tax (private persons, don't
own a VAT ID)
4) Austria to a NON-EU country = 0% Tax

So, the best for your solution is, that the User make the TAX entry for his
country.

regards

Daniel

(Daniel - I'm responding on-list because for some reason my email to you
didn't seem to go through)

  Daniel,

Thanks so much for responding. We are going to be deploying new sites with
ecommerce capabilities for a number of our European companies, so they will
indeed be 'Europe-to-Europe' or 'Europe-to-elsewhere' - so I'm trying to find
out what kind of scenarios I need to plan for, and how to find out what the tax
rates are - if they are set for every country, or if they vary by locality
within countries, etc. Any help or advice you can pass along would be truly
appreciated. Likewise if you have a solution you've created and are interested
in selling that would certainly be something we'd consider.

  Cheers!

  Jason

      Hi all-

We're expanding our E-Commerce activities to sites in Europe and
elsewhere, and I'm trying to get a handle on how to set up tax and price
display (i.e. showing item prices with tax included rather than the US practice
of adding the tax after the total is calculated and destination determined).
Anyone have some resources or advice? I've hunted around on Google a bit but
haven't found anything definitive yet.

      Thanks everyone-

      Jason
