Witango-Talk: Is it ok to tokenize an array?

I am using the following and getting strange results.

 

<@assign request$PIArray "<@tokenize value='<@var request$PIArray>'
chars='-'>">

 

It almost seems to be an array within another 1 by 1 array. Any suggestions?
