I didn't respond either. I, for one, think that the new pricing
structure is a good one.
I think that $200 for the studio is quite reasonable. I'm looking
forward to upgrading
to 6.0 for $100 when it is stable.
The professional server price is competitive with ColdFusion. My one suggestion
would be to bring back the server that is limited to 10 user sessions
for a very low
price such as $399. This would give people an inexpensive entry path
to a full-featured
server instead of the crippled free version. It would be adequate for
small intranet
applications and would be a good stepping stone to the professional
version when it
is outgrown.
Best to all,
Stefan

Subject: RE: Witango-Talk: Witango Version 6 - Community Update
I realized that we never responded to this. Witango pricing drove us
out of the market. We deal with hotels and deploy one Witango
Application server per site. With the advent of P4 hytperthreaded
processors and the lack of stability and support in Witango 5.5. it
out priced itself in the market ( We were already buying a windows
server license). I don't see how the reduction in pricing without
support rmakes its anymore attractive. No support, no volume
discount and a small community have forced us to move on. They
screwed a lot of us with the professional edition ( because of
hyperthreading) in 5x. With the lack of a reasonable upgrade path
and features, I can in no recommend or justify the cost of upgrading
to v6 within our organization. The best shot they had was offering
support and upgrade paths, which were too expensive or fell on deaf
ears. These are my thoughts, but I don't see a solid value
proposition from Witango to move on. I don't understand the
licensing agreement or see how it would benefit our company. Sorry
Phil and Sophie but we had to move on.
Regards,
Christian
