I hear what you are saying, and have a healthy respect for you, but I
don't see at all how it can catch up now. It is so far behind. Also, I
remember Phil's announcement of "open source" to me. It didn't sound
like open source. Do you understand the licensing model they plan to
use? It sounded more to me like you will be able to see the code, and
alter if you wish, but no more open source than if MS Word was
released so you could play with the code, but still had to be licensed
from MS, and so forth. I hope you know more than I do, and are not
hinging your hopes on this (with respect):
New Licensing
-------------
Once the beta testing has been completed and version 6 goes into
release, the source code for both the server and studio will be open
sourced under its own license. Witango will continue to be a
commercial product and a license will need to be purchased. There will
be 3 editions of the Server:
The Lite edition - no change to current license conditions
The Developer edition - no change to current license conditions.
The Professional edition - single machine license, with no limitation
on number of processes or CPUs.

I don’t know for sure, but I also believe that they had a level of
success with these versions that allowed them to recoup the costs
for buying the technology.
After that, I think they split their time with other projects.
At this point, I am very interested, excited even, about the
prospect of an open-source future to the software. I, for one, would
like to setup and manage my own branch of the software,
incorporating various new and old technologies, and just generally
supporting the software in a way I can’t do today, both for my own
hosting environment and for anyone who is interested.
Like most everyone else, though, I am frustrated at the amount of
time that the open-sourcing conversion and version 6 in general has
been in development. I still make a living with the software, I
still code in it everyday and still believe that the basic
philosophy of Witango is viable.
If I thought I could get anywhere with it, I might even offer to
purchase the technology from them, last I heard, however, that was
not something they were interested in.
Hopefully we’ll hear something soon.

According to this article, the Wades purchased the technology to
support their own user base, not the development network.

I think this has been very evident over the years. No other
explanation is viable.

As previously stated before, they take their summer off which I
believe ends around mid-February. So, really they’ve only been back
at it for 2 months. On top of it they were battling some legal
issues with making it open-sourced and other bits of code. So, I’m
guessing the if the lawyers were back at work 2 months ago, it may
take some time to prepare and finally get a motion. I’m in the same
boat and would like to hear something soon, but knowing how slow the
wheel of justice turns, I doubt it will be in the near future.

one would think this would not be that hard to do. Keep us updated.
Guess it may take another flood over polite but urgent emails to
customer support to get the job done.
As far as I know even the hosting services l;like Tronics have heard
nothing.
