Stephen,

You are remembering correctly. In general, Witango 5.5 studio and server was
built around ~2004 technology and as things moved forward such as Apple leaving
Carbon behind, Java 1.5 and 1.6, and more powerful systems with 64-bit OSes and
multiple cores, Witango 5.5 had more and more problems. Under the 5.5 licensing
structure, only the Professional license would run on computers with more than
2 cores.

Today there is not much I can offer you. However, when version 6 is released,
it will support the current OS X, modern databases, including FMP 11 through
the new JDBC/ODBC driver and will operate properly on multi core machines.

I'm not comfortable asking you to hold-off on your port, you need to make
decisions which are correct for your business, but I will tell you that I am
committed to fully supporting your configuration in version 6.

If you'd like to talk about the specifics of your situation, please feel free
to contact me off list.

Subject: Witango-Talk: Mac OS-X and Dual-Quad-Octo Core machines on 10.5 or 10.6

Robert
I seem to recall that we had enormous difficulties getting server to run
on some dual G-5 machines, which are now retired and have been replaced
with Octo-Core Intel machines on 10.5. Something about witango not
running (at least in test/demo mode) in a dual processor environment.

I'm about to port my entire site to PHP, but hate giving up my e-com cart
and the Filemaker interface as my backend uses FMP to create picklists,
order copies, invoices and sends email confirmations. The PHP solution
would have used MySQL and still FMP as a backend.

Am I right in remembering these issues? Its been 2->3 years now, and we
keep one OS9 machine with Webstar and T-2000 just to keep this running,
but really need to be utilizing the new MacPro as its SOOO much faster
and we are not credit card safety compliant with WS.
