Witango 6 is focusing on ODBC and JDBC connectivity. FileMaker has had ODBC/JDBC connectivity for several versions now, but in v11 they released a revamped (and internally written) ODBC/JDBC listener and driver. I use the ODBC connectivity between Witango 5.5 and FMP 11 on high traffic sites now. Unfortunately it's acting a little like a "v1.0" and has a few small bugs, but all in all its better than it was, and very usable.
Testing on Mac OS X 10.6 will be done during October to ensure that at least one method of connectivity (probably ODBC) is solid. Using either ODBC or JDBC the programs will work well together, require minor (ODBC) to modest (JDBC) software and configuration, and Witango and FMP can be on their own separate servers (a configuration recommended by FM) Robert -----Original Message----- From: Wayne Irvine [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, September 30, 2010 2:00 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Witango-Talk: Witango and FileMaker I realise this is the same drum I've been banging for over a decade but what is the situation with Witango 6 and FileMaker 11 on MAC OSX? Do they talk to each other? Is it through ODBC or JDBC? Do they require additional drivers? And can they live in separate machines?
