Dale! Pls. note, that you use a current system with current updates. As developer you must know, that a company never develop new software on old systems. Update your system first, then ask again, if it don't work :-))

I was concerned that doing so might cause the 5.5 compiler to fail. To troubleshoot, I broke down and installed the latest version of Java on my Windows VM. Restarted the VM. Same problem still exists.
