Andre,

Great question.

I can tell you that from a development and support aspect, any platform that
you decide to go with will work well. We are working hard to have Witango
produce the same output, from the same applications, regardless of platform.
You should use what you are most comfortable with.

There is, as usual, a few more thoughts that I can share. Some of this is
approximate, and some opinion, just a few things to consider.

- If you are going to use a Microsoft product, like SQL Server, I would
recommend deploying everything on the Windows platform.

- Apple has recently discontinued the X-Serve, their rack-mount server, which
in my mind brings into question the future of using OS X as a server.

- Linux has many distributions, and we will only be validating on a few, so be
sure to choose a supported platform.

- Witango 6 is a 32-bit Application, but is supported on 64-bit platforms.

- CPU and database I/O is key. Witango doesn't use the disk much, and as a
32-bit application, can only address 2 GB of memory.

- The Standard edition will not run on computers with more than 4 cores. A
larger server would require an Advanced license.

- The Advanced edition will allow you to run multiple services on the same
server, therefore being able to use more than 2 GB of memory in total.

- As we upgrade different parts of the server such as dependencies, compilers,
and system calls, some platforms may execute applications better than others.
These differences should be short lived, and we will strive to maintain parity
among the platforms.

- Witango 6 (and versions to come) are focused only on current and future
operating systems, DBMS, drivers, etc. You should invest in current technology.

questions.

Subject: Witango-Talk: Witango performance metrics

        Gentlemen.

My company is in motion to upgrade our Witango platform up to version
6. However we want use the momentum and formulate an educated decision.

Does anyone possess any knowledge in regards Witango performance on
different platforms (Mac OSX, Different flavors of Windows or Linux, 64 vs 32
bit?).

Perhaps there's a best recommended system configuration for
performance/reliability? Can someone recommend a particular platform
combination to avoid?

        All opinions are welcome.

Sincerely
