Steve,

It should work OK if you run the installer in XPSP3 compatibility mode and with
Admin rights. Remember, this is the installer. Once it’s installed it will run
normally. And be sure to run the installer locally. I had someone say recently
that running it off of a share caused an issue.

If you need file association to work, I’ve been told that running the Studio
once in XPSP3 compat mode will install the file association, but the Studio
itself doesn’t work right.

As for ODBC, for the Studio you should be able to setup User DSNs normally,
however, for System DSNs (for the server) you’ll need to use the 32-bit ODBC
admin found at C:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe. There are no other issues with
ODBC.

I have been using the 5.5 Studio this way for a year now with no complaints. It
is unfortunate that a few things are broken, but they are all minor GUI
elements that I can easily ignore or work around.

As Stefan posted, using XP mode is probably the better solution, since the 5.5
Studio runs perfectly on XP. You can either install your entire dev setup (web
server, Witango Server, DB) all in the XP mode, or cross back and forth – this
may take a little tweaking at the network layer.

Subject: Witango-Talk: HD Crash

I had a hard drive crash on my old laptop two days ago and I bought a new
laptop with Windows 7 (64 bit). I have a lot of Witango List items that are
over 6 months old archived, but I have not been able to retrieve them yet so I
can see past discussion concerning this.

Does someone have previous instructions they could post to the list for
installing Witango 5.5 to Windows 7?

Also are there any ODBC Quirks to be aware of?

Thanks

Steve Fogelson
