Yes I am using FileMaker 11 (Single user).

I checked my version of the JDBC drivers and they have indeed been superseded. 
I updated to the latest version but still no luck.

Actual debug lines:

[Query] [14]    INSERT INTO Layout_0 (Start_date) VALUES (03/05/2011)
[Error] [16]    [FileMaker][FileMaker JDBC] FQL0013/(1:47): Incompatible types 
in assignment. 08007
[Error] [16]    -101 General error during data source operation.

I have changed the Field type in FileMaker to 'text' to fix the problem 
temporarily.
