I've implemented this, and sits in the latest git: The method update(PaintUpdate) will not cause a paint update instead of full repaint. Inside the paintEvent(), you should check the paint device's paintFlags() to see if you should only paint an update or repaint the whole widget (when JavaScript is not available, you will always need to repaint everything).
