IMHO.
Well designed database - not only structure, but a collection of many types
of the objects,
such as triggers, rules, functions, operators, domains and so on. So,
migrating from one
(good :) database version to another is an art.
One of the key aspect of good database design - liberal use of views (and
rules). Views
allows to encapsulate the details of the structure of the tables, which may
change as
the application evolves, behind consistent interfaces.
For bad designed databases the best migration schema is:
DROP DATABASE bad_designed;
CREATE DATABASE well_designed;
-- ...
