so ultimately yes, i had to properly supply resources folder and favicon.ico to
destination folder.

The resources folder contains files which are required to properly
render Wt's widgets (CSS files, background images, icons, ...). If you
see 404's in your log which refer to the resources directory, then you
need to deploy it.
