Hello! I have no mature example of counter, but logging and tracking part has been done in project wt-classes/Gather: http://starius.ru/wt-classes/reference/classWt_1_1Wc_1_1Gather.html It collects dozens of information about visitor's browser as well as IP address. Cookies, Flash cookies, plugins set, User Agent, Time Zone... Maybe it would be useful for counter.
