I.e., under this proposal, the string ????????-????-????-????-???????????? is a valid value for the Guid attribute of the Component element. Rationale: I assume that the reason why Component GUIDs are currently not generatable, is that well-known, stable GUIDs are required for certain sharing and update scenarios. However, for alpha releases of a product, where components are not shared and where updatability is not a goal, manually picking GUIDs is a thankless chore. A patch is attached.
