It works. This is done by placing both elements within Components. I temporarily comment out OPTION 1. OPTION 2: I then add the ability to create a new virtual directory within an existing website under and existing application pool (with the corresponding UI). The application pool is not within a component i.e. it is a lookup. Same for the website. The virtual directory is within a component i.e. a create. It works. I enable both OPTION 1 and OPTION 2 simultaneously. It does not work. At the end of the install I get a message "Failed to read IIsWebSite table. (-2147023728)". While playing, I enable OPTION 1 but disable OPTION 2. Once again it works. I then enable ONLY the OPTION 2 iis:WebSite lookup. It is not even being referenced.
