Hi,
Just letting you know I have uploaded the WiX release into the Maven
Central repository as outlined in my earlier email. You can see the entry
on Maven central here:
http://search.maven.org/#artifactdetails%7Corg.wixtoolset%7Cwix-toolset%7C3.7.RC%7Cjar
With Maven it is impossible to *not* use version numbers when
uploading/downloading files. For example to reference the release I have
uploaded, a Maven user would have to add this configuration to their
project:
<dependency>
<groupId>org.wixtoolset</groupId>
<artifactId>wix-toolset</artifactId>
<version>3.7.RC</version>
</dependency>
I took the version number from the main website, however if there are any
objections to it let me know.
I see there is a newer version now available. I will upload that at some
stage in the future - again Maven will require that I use a version number
for this and I will use 3.7 unless anyone recommends anything differently.
I assume any updates to this release will use minor versions (e.g. 3.7.1)
and I will upload these with the version numbers as appropriate then.
Maven central will keep every version I upload for evermore, so users can
always reference any of the uploaded versions and must manually change
their project configuration to move along to the next version, etc. This is
the standard Maven way of doing things and generally avoids people being
confused about which versions they are using, etc. If I am slow to upload
new versions, people will know what version they are on and they will just
complain to me, which will then eventually make me to do the upload.
The artifacts are uploaded via OSS Sonatype. I currently am the only one
setup to do these uploads but if I get hit by a bus or lose interest and
anyone wants to continue uploading newer versions, it would be a case of
contacting Sonatype and proving you are legitimately linked to this project
(e.g. get someone official from the project to ok it):
https://docs.sonatype.org/display/Repository/Sonatype+OSS+Maven+Repository+Usage+Guide
Any questions or problems, let me know.
Cheers,
Dan
