Also - if you are using Windows 8.1 (with IE11), and you want to use the client
(instead of the web-browser) you will need to get IE to emulate IE10. You do
this by tapping F12 on the web login screen, and then going down to the
emulation settings and setting the user agent to IE10.

IIRC, you can force Web Lync by adding "?sl_test=1" to the end of the URL.
