Hello again,
Chocolatey is a wrapper around nuget created by Rob Reynolds for
executables, so its like apt-get/yum for Windows. I maintain several
packages. Together with a gentleman named Gary Ewan Park (gep13 on twitter,
github, and elsewhere) I maintain packages for wix.
Gary and I would like the chocolatey nuget packages to be created by the
wix build process, and uploaded to chocolatey.org as part of the current
release processes. I'm more than willing to help with patches. I opened a
ticket and Bob Arnson asked me to start a conversation over here.
>From the technical side of things, there is a nuget package with msbuild
tasks for building nuget files. So I can generate the chocolatey package
generation to nuget.pkg. The best practice would be as follows:
- A chocolatey package to download and silntly install the setup file.
- A chocolatey package to install the zip distribution.
- A chocolatey meta package (nuspec with dependencies only) with the exe
install as a dependency.
Then someone on the nuget team would make an account on chocolatey.org (its
runs the nuget.org codee) take ownership of the chocolatey packages and
publish them at release time.
Regards,
Justin
