I created the issue at http://wixtoolset.org/issues/4278/, but since the
process document describes getting feedback on the WIP - which requires
checking into a fork and requesting a pull - I wasn't sure I should just wait
till the pull request gets noticed or let you/Bob know that I sent one. So:
https://wix.codeplex.com/SourceControl/network/forks/heaths/wix/contribution/6010

Or do you/Bob get notification of pull requests / poll them often enough not to
need us to email of pull requests? (Wondering in general - not necessarily
specifically about WIPs.)

The process seems pretty straight forward, but one suggestion is that creating
a feature issue type could, perhaps, give you the template for the markdown
file to check in (and maybe even the required path as metadata) you can copy
and paste into the file to create. There's several steps that may be prone to
user error (mistyping something, for example) when much of it comes from
information the web site already has.

You are probably the first person after me to create one. So if you hit any
snags in the process, would love feedback.

PS: a feature request could be opened with the information below minus some of
the implementation details and we could triage that. It’d also give you your
 WIP #.

Thanks for the pointer. I'd be happy to work on that.

Redefining the package cache locations is definitely a good feature for Burn.
Would you mind starting a WIP to capture the design? There are a lot of
tradeoffs
 to discuss.

I've gotten a lot of feedback on my blog and through other sources about Burn's
package cache re: Visual Studio. It's big, but it's there for good reason
(mainly,
because prompt for source issues were much, MUCH higher in volume than size
complaints). I'm writing a new post on how to work around this (originally was
intended for MSI itself but that team forbade it ;).

So I was curious what people's thoughts were on defining both per-user and
per-machine KnownFolders/CSIDLs (if KnownFolders aren't supported on all
desired platforms) for the burn package cache. To support current bundles out
there, they could fallback to AppData
if the cached payload isn't found.

This would allow power users and domain admins to use existing infrastructure
to decide where the package cache should be created, since it seems many
devs/users are using a combined SSD/HDD solution where the HDD has the monster
capacity and the SSD is mainly
 for Windows itself.
