What I mean is that at one time none of ATL/MFC/CString was included in Express
and I don't know if that's changed (meaning those header files wouldn't exist
for someone who doesn't have a paid version of visual studio).

It should be. There isn’t a limitation on what can be compiled, only what’s
available with Express by default. If you supply the code, it will compile it.
