Apparently, he didn’t like my answer on WiX-Users.

Having migrated from Wix 3.5 to 3.6 to 3.8, I’d says it was really easy.
WixCop will detect things like the Registry Action attribute very easily.
Everything else is pretty drop-in, and the later versions save you from several
bugs inherent in the 3.5 code.

Subject: Re: [WiX-devs] Query- Wix 3.5 integration with VS 2013

I'd be curious why moving from 3.5 to 3.8 would require a “lot of modification
in existing tools and require rigorous testing efforts”. 3.8 is backward
compatible with 3.5. Very rarely are public APIs (or even private APIs!)
changed between minor releases. I recommend updating your binaries and just
trying it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised on how little change is
required.

The other option would be to use 3.8 on developers’ machines and build with the
3.5 toolset in your official builds. As long as they don't use newer stuff it
should work (further proof of our dedication to back compact).

Hi,

This is in regards with WIX 3.5 integration with VS 2013. Currently we have Wix
3.5 integration with VS 2010 but not with VS2013, although we can integrate the
latest Wix version 3.8 with VS2013 , but doing so result lot of modification in
existing tools and require rigorous testing efforts.

Could you please suggest the ways through we can achieve the Wix 3.5
integration with VS 2013.

Thanks & Regards,
Sudhanshu Shrivastava
