Not unexpected in some ways. So the choices are: 1) ignore anything past the third quad (even extra quads) across the board; 2) enforce the original concept of the four quad version number, even if the Windows Installer Service doesn't care; OR 3) remain inconsistent. I don't like 3) because consistent behavior is reliable behavior. I can tolerate 1) as long as it is consistently applied and documented. But intellectually I prefer 2) because standards are standards. But we live in a world where standards are often honored in the breach. Mainly, we just need consistency. -- John Merryweather Cooper Build & Install Engineer - jXchange Jack Henry & Associates, Inc.(r) Shawnee Mission, KS 66227 Office: 913-341-3434 x791011 jocoo...@jackhenry.com www.jackhenry.com ________________________________________ From: Bob Arnson [b...@joyofsetup.com] Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2014 5:36 PM To: wix-devs@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [WiX-devs] Bug 4443 On 6/12/2014 3:35 PM, John Cooper wrote: > It's interesting that the installer service will handle a malformed version. The MSI SDK says that ProductVersion is a three-field string. So it apparently ignores the fourth field. In fact...checking...yep: MSI completely ignores anything past the first three fields. You can have a fifth field if you want. ARP will happily show the freaky version. WiX won't let you build that, however; it stops at four fields. -- sig://boB http://joyofsetup.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HPCC Systems Open Source Big Data Platform from LexisNexis Risk Solutions Find What Matters Most in Your Big Data with HPCC Systems Open Source.
