thanks for the info!
My problem was my lack of understanding of how to build the merge module
(partially due to the doc that was in the blog about heat). Instead of
compile, link each module I was led to believe you could compile to an
msm and then link the installer. Once I did each in turn with a final
link of the installer, everything work other than the warnings
(LGHT1076) about the length which I see as an issue already.

It's a generic message for any failure to access the merge module other
than the file not being found. Common causes include permissions
problems and virus scanners locking the file.
